Fans are still reeling from the return of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil for its second heart-stopping season, and with the excitement at it’s height during this weekend’s Silicon Valley Comic-Con, fans clearly had Netflix on the brain. During Avengers star Jeremy Renner’s spotlight Q&A panel, one fan asked about the possibility of seeing Hawkeye or his fellow Avengers hitting the small screen via Netflix. To fans’ delight, Renner seemed completely open to the idea, and a fan of the Netflix format as a whole:
I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.
The actor also went on to express interest in a Black Widow and Hawkeye movie, saying that he would do it “in a second. I’d love to do that.” The two characters have an interesting and long-running friendship, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is a character who still has a long past to explore.
The current run of Marvel shows on Netflix focus on the founding members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Defenders. Alongside Daredevil, this includes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron fist, so far — but seeing an Avenger (or perhaps a West Coast Avenger) move to a serialized Netflix drama would be an exciting and interesting new take on the growing Marvel narrative.
